Plus, if you have a ticket that is expiring between March 1 and September 30, 2020, the value of your unused ticket can be used for travel through December 31, 2021.
For new tickets booked between now and June 30, we’re expanding our offer to waive change fees for future travel. This offer includes AAdvantage® award tickets but excludes Basic Economy tickets.
Keep in mind:
You're allowed to make a change to your trip once, and the change fee will be waived. You can cancel your trip online and call later when you’re ready to rebook, including Basic Economy tickets bought on or before May 31, 2020.
Keep in mind, you may owe any difference in ticket price when you rebook your trip.

You can change or cancel your trip online in just a few steps. Here’s how:
You'll need your 6-character confirmation (also called a ‘Record Locator’).
If you don't know your Record Locator, you can find it in the confirmation email you received when you booked your trip.
AAdvantage® members can log in to their account to find upcoming trips.
Choose 'Change trip' or 'Cancel trip' in the top toolbar and follow the prompts.
When you’re done, we'll send a confirmation email that includes your ticket number.
Keep this handy so you can refer to it when you call to rebook.
When you're ready to rebook your trip, please call Reservations.
American tickets have a 13-digit number that begins with '001'. Keep in mind there are separate ticket numbers for add-ons like seats, upgrades and bags.
We'll send you an email with the information you’ll need, including your ticket number. Keep this handy so you can refer to it when you call Reservations to rebook.
A face covering is required while flying on American, except for very young children or anyone with a condition that prevents them from wearing one. You also may be required by local law to wear a face covering in the airport where your trip begins, where it ends or where you connect.
Keep in mind, a face covering can be a mask or any secured cloth like a scarf or bandana that covers your nose and mouth. Visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website for more information.
State and local governments in the U.S. have implemented a range of travel requirements related to COVID-19. If you’re traveling from certain areas within the U.S., you may be required to self-quarantine for 14 days from the time you arrive, or the duration of your trip (whichever is shorter).
Keep in mind that travel requirements are updated often, so we recommend checking city and state websites before your trip for the latest information.
U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, or visa holders arriving to the U.S from a coronavirus (Covid-19) impacted area must travel through one of 13 airports where the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has enhanced entry screening capabilities.
Foreign nationals who have traveled to these countries within the last 14 days will not be allowed to travel to the U.S.
Many countries are restricting entry due to COVID-19. We recommend that you check the latest entry requirements before your trip as they are updated often. You can find more information about these restrictions (by country) on the U.S. Department of State site, or on the International Air Transport Association (IATA) site.
The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) requires all customers flying to or from Canada wear a non-medical mask or face covering during their journey that meet or exceed PHAC recommendations.
If you’re traveling at this time, we’re here for you and are making temporary changes to the travel experience to prioritize your safety.
Curbside check-in may not be available. Be sure to check your flight status before you go to the airport, as ticket counter hours may change daily without notice.
Due to the increased flight changes, we’ve stopped checking pets for now. Carry-on pets, service and emotional support animals are still allowed to fly in the cabin if they meet the requirements.
We’ve temporarily closed and consolidated premium clubs and lounges. Operating hours for clubs that remain open may change based on flight schedules.
We’re limiting food and drink service in the Main Cabin based on flight length and destination. You’re welcome to bring snacks and soft drinks on board to enjoy during your flight.

When time and flights permit, gate agents may reassign seats to create more space between customers or to accommodate families who need to be seated together.
Once boarding is complete you can move to another seat within your ticketed cabin.*
