AAdvantage® program benefits
You can earn AAdvantage® miles and Loyalty Points when flying on British Airways and its affiliate airlines BA Cityflyer, BA Euroflyer or Sun-Air of Scandinavia. Here’s how:
- Buy an eligible* published fare ticket in an eligible booking code
- Fly an eligible route
When you earn eligible AAdvantage® miles for travel on British Airways, you’ll also earn Loyalty Points that count toward AAdvantage® status.

Calculating miles based on ticket price
For travel booked with British Airways, you earn AAdvantage® miles based on ticket price, excluding government taxes and fees. The more you spend, and the higher your AAdvantage® status, the more you'll earn.
- AAdvantage® member – 5 miles for every U.S. dollar*
- AAdvantage Gold® member – 40% bonus*
- AAdvantage Platinum® member – 60% bonus*
- AAdvantage Platinum Pro® member – 80% bonus*
- AAdvantage Executive Platinum® member – 120% bonus*
*Basic Economy fare tickets bought on or after 12 a.m. CT on Dec. 17, 2025 will not earn AAdvantage® miles or Loyalty Points. Basic Economy fare tickets bought on or before 11:59 p.m. CT on Dec. 16, 2025 earn 2 AAdvantage® miles and Loyalty Points per dollar spent.
If you book a flight marketed by American (AA flight number) and operated by British Airways, you earn AAdvantage® miles and Loyalty Points based on American’s earning chart.

Some fares may earn AAdvantage® miles and Loyalty Points based on a percentage of the distance flown instead of ticket price. This applies to special fares and situations where ticket or fare details aren’t available when your flight is posted.
You can use AAdvantage® miles to book flights on British Airways and other oneworld® airlines.
If you have AAdvantage® status, you may receive oneworld® benefits when flying on British Airways, including:
- Priority boarding
- Lounge access (depending on status and cabin)
- Additional bag allowance
Systemwide upgrades issued by American may be used on trans-Atlantic British Airways operated flights.

American Airlines and British Airways have joint premium lounges at Terminal 8 in New York Kennedy (JFK) airport. Depending on your fare and status, you may be eligible for access.
Connecting flights
Connections at London Heathrow (LHR) may require extra time depending on your route and terminal.
One Stop Security (OSS)
Some connections at London Heathrow offer One Stop Security, allowing eligible customers to transfer without additional screening. Availability is limited, route-specific and not guaranteed.
